Time flies when you’re having fun! And we have so much fun watching all the magnificent whales, dolphins, sea lions, and more, that sometimes we just can’t fit all the fun into 2.5 hours. So we’re offering a special 8-hour dolphin and whale watching cruise. It’s the can’t-miss cetacean celebration of the summer!
If you want to spend more time getting up-close and personal with Dana Point’s year-round marine wildlife, then Captain Dave’s super-sized SUPER Safari is for you!
This extended trip will give us more time to travel farther offshore in search of big whales, huge herds of dolphins, different species of fish and sharks, pelagic birds, various pinnipeds such as sea lions and elephant seals, and more.
During the summer months, you could see the largest known animals on earth, blue whales! You may also see fin whales, humpback whales, Bryde’s whales, and minke whales. Toothed whales are also on the agenda for our Super Safari! Huge herds of common dolphins, fun-loving bottlenose dolphins, and maybe if we’re very blessed, a rare treat of the largest dolphin species – orcas.
Continental Breakfast Included
As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm whale! Your fun-filled Super Safari departs early for maximum time on the water with the magnificent animals. Since you probably won’t have time for breakfast (or if you’re anything like me, you’ll be too excited to eat), we’ll be serving you a delicious breakfast on board.
Our Dolphin and Whale Watching SUPER Safari includes:
- Tropical fruit platters
- Assorted yogurts
- Breakfast breads and muffins
- Warm ham and Swiss cheese croissants
- Pancake-wrapped sausages on a stick
- Orange and cranberry juice
- Gourmet coffee & tea station
Additional beverages including water, soda, beer, hard seltzers, and wine will be available for purchase throughout the Super Safari.
Snack and Hot Lunch Included
After spending hours at sea in the company of the largest animals on earth, we expect you’ll be feeling hungry.
We won’t be serving up tiny krill though! Super Safaris mean super appetites, so we’re giving you a big and delicious lunch! We’ll leave the krill for the whales (which makes them quite happy).
For a mid-day snack you’ll be served Fritos with chili.
And your Dolphin & Whale Watching SUPER Safari catered lunch includes:
- Freshly grilled Angus beef cheeseburger
- Freshly grilled plant-based Beyond Burger
- Burger toppings including lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles
- Freshly grilled hot dogs
- Caesar salad
- Tropical fruit platter
- Lays potato chips
And of course, Mrs. Capt. Dave’s famous triple fudge brownies are served as a special treat!
Assorted dry snacks and refreshing beverages including water, soda, beer, hard seltzers, and wine will be available for purchase throughout your whale watching cruise.
Enjoy an Upscale Whale Watch on Hoku Nai’a
Hoku Nai’a is our new 65-foot, double-deck, upscale power catamaran.
Her spacious observation deck is perfect for dolphin and whale watching during your SUPER Safari by giving you an elevated look at the animals. For your comfort, there is ample cushioned bench seating and it’s covered for protection from the elements. There is also a bar with water, soda, beer, and wine available to purchase.
The main deck is fully enclosed for climate control while large windows on both sides provide plenty of viewing angles during the Dolphin & Whale SUPER Safari. Bench seats with tables and a lounge area are perfect for guests wanting to enjoy their lunch.
There are two restrooms on the main deck.

Hoku Nai’a does not have underwater viewing pods.
